Michael Karlin has established the “Tax Residence and Coronavirus Working Group”, a group of over 70 prominent international tax lawyers and accountants advocating for action by the Treasury Department and the IRS to provide relief to non-U.S. individuals unable to leave the United States due to the coronavirus pandemic and who may involuntarily become U.S. residents and subject to other tax burdens. Following the release by the IRS of Revenue Procedures 2020-20 and 2020-27 and FAQs, the group has held a Zoom meeting with government representatives and will shortly be submitting comments on several issues. If you are a tax professional and would like to participate, please contact Michael Karlin.
